Good to know:

Using Interrail in the Netherlands is really easy and convenient. With your Interrail ticket you can use the trains of all operators in the country. The rail network is very dense and on main lines between Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and Den Haag you find up to four trains each hour. Reservations are only need for Thalys high speed trains to Brussels and Paris.

Timetables of all services in the Netherlands are available in our schedule planner or the Interrail app which include all trains and timings. You can also check on the national schedule planner or at the websites of private operators.

Many stations in the Netherlands are now equipped with barriers that restrict the access to the platforms. This is because the Netherlands have implemented a new national ticketing system using a chipcard (the „OV-chipkaart“) which is used for all public transportation. At larger stations where the barriers are already in use you can either ask the staff to open the gates for you or contact the staff via the speakers at the gates.

Ferries run from Hoek van Holland to Harwich, from Amsterdam to Newcastle and from Europoort/Rotterdam to Hull.
