Good to know:

The main line in Montenegro connects Bar at the Adriatic with the capital Podgorica and continues to Belgrade (Serbia). A branch line connects Podgorica with the former capital Niksic. From Bar, international trains connect Montenegro with Belgrade. In the summer additional trains run to Novi Sad, Budapest, Prague and as far as Minsk and Moscow. Frequent local trains run from Niksic to Bar and Niksic to Podgorica. On the spectacular mountain line towards Serbia just a handful of trains run, including the international trains to Serbia. Seat reservation is strongly recommended on the international trains, all other trains can be used without reservations.

Timetables for international services are available in our schedule planner or the Interrail app which include all trains and timings. For timings of local trains check the website of ZPCG.

As the railway network consists of two lines only, many destinations are accessible by bus only – such as the Tara gorge, Zabljak national park, Budva, Kotor and Ulcinj. Bus connections are frequent and reliable. To connect with Dubrovnik and Split (Croatia), Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Tirana (Albania) you have to travel by bus too.

There is a daily ferry connection from Bar to Bari (Italy).
