I will keep all my important documents (tickets, passport, money, credit cards) in one of those money belts that can be hidden under your t-shirt… but how do I keep my backpack safe? Especially when on a train!
A friend has lent me one of those “pacsafe” wire mesh things that covers the whole backpack which then can be locked to a permanent fixture i.e. luggage rack. However it is a pain taking it on and off and it is rather heavy and bulky. I’ve also read it can make your bag stand out and gives the impression you have something valuable inside and can be easily broken into with a pair of wire cutters.
So would a bicycle lock be just as good to stop thieves being able to walk off with your backpack?
This is my first time interrailing and backpacking, so would love to hear what others do to keep their bags safe on the trains and in hostels when lockers are not available. I don’t want to be paranoid my bag will be stolen… especially on a night train when I want to sleep! cheers
