Hello, everybody.
2 drivers of our company have just missed the train in Gotha. They have 2 train tickets from Gotha to Munich. Could you tell me whether they can sit on the next train and use the tickets they have? Or do they need to purchase new tickets?

Probably too late for you, and of course a simple asking at the station would have provided the easy to get answer, but for any others:
Depends on type of ticket. NORMAL standard fare tickets are valid for the whole day between the stated points on any reasonable route.
Tickets bought advance to save money are labelled as Sparpreis or even much cheaper SuperSparpreis and these have ALWAYS what the Germans call ZUGBINDUNG: which is also pretty clearly mentioned on the tickets. This simple means you MUST travel on the listed trains or otherwise its not valid. Spar (not Super) can be excahnged before to another train by paying the difference in fares.
Short extra note: normal fares mostly end on whole EUR, spar/super most often on .90. Spar, but not super are also valid on extra urban transport away from station in about any larger city, certainly Munchen. This is also mentioned on them as City+.
