Hi, i will be travelling from Hungary (Budapest) on a night train to Alba Lulia arriving in the Romanian town at 7am on a sunday morning. We are hoping to travel to Scarisoara ice cave and believe Alba Lulia is the best place to travel to from Budapest in order to make our way there.

Ive been searcing the web for the next step of the journey to actually get to the caves and have struggled to find any infomation, including two contradicting sites- one telling me the caves were IN Alba Lulia, one telling me they were 52 miles away!

could anyone please make this any clearer? Is alba Lulia the best station to travel to from Budapest for the caves? how far are the caves from here? what travel possibilities do we have to reach them? any other info you feel would benefit me is great.

Cheers

Hi!

Scarcisoara Cave is indeed not in Alba Iulia, but some 130km away from it! The closest train station is Vascau, about 70km away but Alba Iulia is much more convenient to go to; have a look at the map here :arr: http://www.bueker.net/trainspotting/map.php?file=maps/romania/romania.gif

I had a quick search on http://www.autogari.ro and it seems that there are no buses serving the cave, so it might be rather complicated to get there... :(
