hi everyone...
just started looking at going interrail...
would be our first time and these are just very rough plans...
would like any advice/additions to the journey..
going for 1 month.

most likely i will go to salou in span for a week first so can start of in barcelona.

barcelona -> along the south of france
france -> italy (florence/pisa) and Rome
Italy into Germany.

Also we would most probably take a tent, is it east to find campsites in most of these places.

I keep reading about reservation and supplement charges too. How likely is it we would have to pay these?

Many Thanks (sorry for the long questions!!!)

James

On supplements: It depends on how you travel. For instance, when going from Florence to Rome, there's three options - the slow, regional train, the faster intercity train, and the super-fast EuroStar. They take, respectively 7, 6 and 5 hours (roughly), and while the regional train is free of supplements, Intercity costs 5€ and Eurostar 15€ in supplements. It's the same situation on many other routes - it's often possible to travel for free on regional trains, if you can accept a bit more time on the train.

For concrete fares, check out this:

If you want a couchette/sleeper on a night train, you'll have to pay for that as well.
