Interrail travel route

Anja @ 16-03-2008 23:24

I'm going on a 22-days long interrail trip with a friend this summer and this is our planned route:

Oslo - Berlin - Prague - Venice - Pompei - Napoli (?) - Rome - Florence - Pisa - Milan - Genova - Nice - Barcelona - Paris - London

We are planning to stay two days in Prague, Venice, Rome, Florence, Milan, Barcelona, Paris and London.

Is this too ambitious?

I appreciate all help! 😉

Hi there,

Yeah it does look rather too ambitious for a 22 day trip. A month would be fine. I recommend 2 nights in most places otherwise it feels like you are on the train all of the time instead of sightseeing. You might find that some of your trip doesn't join up well. You can check a timetable like Thomas Cook's European Rail Timetable - in your library - which will show you which destinations join up nicely. Prague to Venice might be difficult. Take night trains if you can so that you don't waste days sitting on the train.

For Pompei you can stay in Napoli which is really cheap and interesting. There's a great place in central Napoli, with a good atmosphere and friendly staff, called 3 Small Rooms: you'll find it in hostel booking web sites. They will show you how to find the restaurant serving the best pizza you will ever taste...costing 3 Euros!

To visit Pompei: go to Centrale - the main railway station - and follow the signs saying Circumvesuviano and buy a Pompei ritorno. You can also visit Herculaneum, which is closer and on the same railway line, but is a much smaller site.

I hope this is some help. Have a great trip.
