1a Eurail: Travelling from Turku (Finland) to Helsinki (Finland)

To travel in Finland by Eurail is quite simple. All trains in Finland can be used without a seat reservation. However it is recommend to buy a reservation for travelling longer distances. Good to know: Finish railways VR offer an excellent night train service which is recommended to travel the country from south (Helsinki, Turku, Tampere) to the north (Rovaniemi, Lapland).

1b Eurail: Travelling from Helsinki (Finland) to Stockholm (Sweden)

To travel by ferry and Eurail from Helsinki to Stockholm, book a direct overnight ferry. The daily departure time in Helsinki is in the late afternoon. The arrival in Stockholm in the morning.

If you want to travel by a cheaper ferry or during the day (not overnight), you have to take a ferry route from Turku to Stockholm.

The journey time is about 17 hours. A reduction of 20% to 50% on the standard ticket price is available for Eurail. It depends on the season.

1c Eurail: Travelling from Stockholm (Sweden) to Frankfurt am Main (Germany)

When travelling with Eurail you will most likely cross Denmark on your way to Germany. The direct EC trains between Denmark and Germany require a reservation during the peak summer season. There are also connections with IC Buses of DB (German Railways) which also require a reservation.

You can use Oresund regional trains from Göteborg and Malmö to cross the border to go to Copenhagen. These do not require a reservation. Alternatively you can use the high speed Snabbtag trains from Malmö, Göteborg and Stockholm with compulsory reservation.

The ferry between Helsingborg and Helsingor is free with Eurail.

During summer you can use the Malmö - Berlin night train.

1d Eurail: Travelling from Frankfurt am Main (Germany) to Zagreb (Croatia)

Travellers with Eurail don't need reservations when travelling with day trains from Germany to Slovenia. Some domestic express trains in Croatia require a reservation.

1e Eurail: Travelling from Zagreb (Croatia) to Mostar (Bosnia-Herzegovina)

The only international service to Bosnia-Herzegovina is the train from Zagreb to Sarajevo. Unfortunately, this connection has been suspended in December 2016.
All other international lines have been closed for several years.

At the moment, it is only possible to get to Bosnia-Herzegovina by bus.

If the train from Zagreb to Sarajevo runs again, you do not need a reservation if you are travelling with Interrail.
If you are travelling with Eurail, you need to buy a ticket from the border to Sarajevo, as Eurail is not valid in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
