Realistically, is it fairly straightforward to buy a ticket once I am on the trip? Would I just need my passport? My reason for asking this is that my salary comes in on the 21st (and I am also moving flat at the moment, which is expensive), so a back-up plan may be to only buy the ticket on that date (and stay wherever I fly to on the 18th/19th for a couple of days).

My plans have now changed, but the above query is still relevant. I am now going to set off (by air from London to Prague) on 25th August, and need my InterRail ticket to be valid from 26th August. I would still like to buy it on or after 21st August, but I have just noticed in another thread that they can apparently not be bought at British stations. xo Does this apply to even the main London ones? What about STA? Or should I try to buy it in Prague? What's the best plan?

Thanks. I rang British rail enquiries over the weekend and they said that it is possible to buy InterRail tickets at staffed British stations. They may of course have made a mistake, but I'll try one of them tomorrow and report back - otherwise, I'll get it in Prague.

N.B. The official enquiries line misinformed me the other day. It is indeed the case that you cannot buy InterRail tickets from British railway stations - even the huge ones in London. :/
