The railway line from Bar to Belgrade, built by Tito, is one of the most GIGANTIC train routes in Europe. The line connects the small port of Bar on the Montenegrin Adriatic coast with Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.

The railway station of Bar is well suited for a return journey of a tour. From Dubrovnik, Kotor or Budva, from where you have good bus connections.
Bar is also strategically good located for trips to and from Albania, which can be reached by bus from Bar via Ulcinj.

From Bar (Montenegro) to Belgrade (Serbia) there are two daily trains. The day train starts in Bar at 09:00 h. The night train starts at 19:00 h with couchette and sleeper cars. In the other direction from Belgrade to Bar, the day train starts at 09:10 h and the night train at 20:10 h. A second night train is offered in the summer months.

It is recommended to take the route at day, to enjoy the wonderful views of the Montenegrin mountains.

I can only recommend such a train journey from Montenegro to Serbia to every traveller. Either with a rail pass like Interrail, Eurail or by point to point ticket.
It is not only a strategically great connection from many destinations on the Adriatic and Albania back to Central Europe, but also has a lot to offer in the landscape and is on some parts really gigantic!
A one-way ticket costs approx. EUR 19-21 bought locally at a station, with Railplus (for example DB Bahncard, ÖBB Vorteilscard) you get 25% discount.
The day train usually carries a bar-car, where you can buy chilled drinks, freshly brewed delicious Serbian coffee and sandwiches.

Where to buy the ticket from Bar to Belgrade and reverse: you have to buy it at a station which is usually also possible at stations outside of both countries.

Prices for one-way Bar-Belgrade or reverse
Ticket fare 2nd-class: EUR 21 / 1st class: 31,80
Seat reservation: EUR 3
Couchette (6-beds): EUR 6
Sleeper 3 / 2 / 1 bed(s): EUR 15 / 20 / 45
