Hi,

we\'re 4 friends from Belgium and this September we\'d like to travel to Vienna by train. However, we\'re not so sure as to which type of ticket we should use for that, i.e. if an Interrail pass is cheapest/most suitable for our purposes or if it\'d be better to buy regular tickets with the applicable rail companies?
Our plan is to travel TO Vienna by day, so departure in Brussels/Antwerp in the morning and arrival in the evening, and travel FROM Vienna by night, so departure in Vienna in the evening and arrival home the following morning. We won\'t make any other stops along the way, so that\'s why we\'re a bit unsure about what would be best..

Thanks in advance!

Lisa

Hi Lisa.
If you do not stop along your route and know your fix travel dates, a saver price ticket might be the cheapest option for you.

For the day train connection from Amsterdam/Brussels to Vienna, use [ux]https://rail.shop/omio[/ux] - there you can book the ticket in one step.
The journey time is about 12 hours and ticket prices starts from about 80 Euro.

On your way back from Vienna to Amsterdam/Brussels, first travel by nightjet night train from Vienna to for example Düsseldorf (best to get to Amsterdam): https://rail.cc/en/night-train/vienna-duesseldorf-nj-40490/44
Tickets also available on [ux]https://rail.shop/omio[/ux] for the whole trip.
Example:
Vienna dep 20:41 - nightjet
Düsseldorf arr 08:42
Düsseldorf dep 09:09 - ICE - reservation recommended as often full!
Amsterdam arr 11:28

If you want to travel by Interrail, you only need the Interrail pass for your day travel Amsterdam/Brussels to Vienna. No extra fees.
Therefore no hurry to book a saver ticket already now.
But the reservation fees which are mandatory for the nightjet night train, on your way back, are high - couchette from Euro 34 - read here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/vienna-duesseldorf-nj-40490/44
ICE Düsseldorf-Amsterdam is free.

Do not use the Thalys to Brussels with Interrail, if you go there.

If you can buy a YOUTH Interrail pass, it is available from 202 Euro - currently 10% discount on [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Now it is your turn to calculate. Check ticket prices on [ux]https://rail.shop/omio[/ux] , [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] or [ux]https://rail.shop/nsinternational[/ux]

The maximum you would pay with Interrail is Euro 202 + Euro 34 (couchette).

Pete :)

Hi Lisa,

You can take the day train from Antwerp to Brussel and then the ICE to Frankfurt. if you get your tickets 6 monthes in advance you can get a deal. But personaly I would take the night train and get a T4 sleeping place, this is a privated sleeping compartmend for the 4 of you. If you want a senic route and start in Dusseldorf, if you want the fast route : Go to Frankfurt. The time of arrival is the same.
