Take inter rail timetable by Thomas Cook. Updated once a month and costs about £15. I used this a lot and it was very useful.

Other tip is to pack light. Do you realy need those extra shoes. You may think otherwise when lugging all your stuff around in the heat looking for a hostel.

I dispensed with the excellent Cook's timetable this time by researching my trip on the D Bahn site and saving the data on my phone and on paper.

I'd advise people not to buy a big rucksack: you will just fill it up.

And I accidentally lightened my load on my last trip by leaving my evening shoes in the Swiss Alps. So I just looked a wee bit more scruffy with my foul-smelling Salomon trekking shoes.
