Hello,
in the mid of August, I want to travel from Skopje to Prague by train. I\'ve don a some research already, but I would like to make few things clear. Is it possible to book train tickets online from Skopje to Belgrade and from Belgrade to Budapest, and if so, is it nercessary? An if not, is it enough just to buy them at teh staion before the train leaves...? (would be the price the same?)
Thanks for your advice,

David

Hi David, welcome to railcc!

Do you want to make stops in Beograd and Budapest or do you want to get to Prague as quickly as possible?

Online booking is not possible up until Budapest; I would buy separate tickets for Skopje - Beograd (about 20€) and Beograd - Budapest (15€ fixed price) locally at the stations.
From Budapest to Prague I would recommend to buy a ticket online in advance from Hungarian Railways MAV START at [ux]https://rail.shop/mav/[/ux] (needs to be printed out at a ticket machine at a station in Hungary).

Please consider that at the moment the only train between Skopje and Beograd is the night train coming from Thessaloniki: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/belgrade-skopje-thessaloniki-train/[/ux]
Beograd to Budapest: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/budapest-belgrade-train/[/ux]

Thanks a lot for your information! My plan so far is to travel both Skopje-Belgrade and Belgrade-Budapest overnight. So I will have one day to spend in Belgrade, without sleeping there.
However, is it OK to buy tickets (and if possible also couchette reservation) for night Belgrade-Budapest train right in the day of departure?
And another (hopefully last) question: Varies the price of the train between Budapest and Prague much, if bought in advance compared to buying it at the station (if it is possible)? I\'m not sure when exactly I want to be back from Balkans, and it would be good to know in case of delay of previous trains.
Thanks!

It is no problem at all to buy the reservations on the day of departure (for Skopje - Beograd and Beograd - Budapest). As a single traveller it shouldnt be a problem to buy the couchette reservation on the day as well, but you could buy it in advance as well - if you spend more time in Skopje before you go.

A regular ticket Budapest - Prague is 61,60€; advance fare tickets are available for 19€ and 29€. However, you could buy separate tickets for Budapest - Bratislava (return ticket, 16€, unlimited availability), then a ticket to Breclav (7,20€) and finally Breclav - Prague (on board, 12€) and get away cheaper.
