In traveling from Hamburg to Copenhagen 1) Do they still have the train the involves a train ferry between Puttgarten & Rødby,?

If not is a 4 min transfer time in Nykoebing F st realistic ? Would it be difficult to get off the train, onto another platform, and on another train in that tim?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi and welcome to rail.cc,

when do you want to travel from Hamburg to Copenhagen? The direct trains including the ferry passage from Puttgarden to Rodby still exist however at the moment you have to board/disemabark the ferry on foot (the train remains at Puttgarden); this is due to construction works as far as I know but in a few days trains will run as normal again.

Thanks for your reply.

I want to take this trip on July 20. I think this would be an interesting experience. Are all the trains that say 0 changes ones that take the ferry? How much in advance will these trips be available to purchase on line ?

Also, If that does not work out for whatever reason, is a 4 minute transfer time enough in Nykoebing ? Are the tracks far from each other at that station?

Thanks again in advance for you assistance.

Hi Judy,

all trains from Puttgarden to Rodby take the ferry, including those with "0" changes; these direct trains run directly on the ferry with passengers onboard, as soon as the train is on the ferry passengers disembark and spend the time on deck, then board the train again on the ferry before the train leaves the ferry again.

On July 20 apparently there are no direct trains to Copenhagen; a change of trains in Nykobing is necessary; if a change of trains is shown in a schedule planner it is always possible to make the connection; in that case the connection is timed for passengers coming from Hamburg so you do not have to worry about the connection.

You can buy tickets directly for German Railways DB using our partner link: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn/Hamburg-Hbf/Copenhagen[/ux] - thank you! :)
