Hello,

I understand that since 2016, you can have an outbound and an inbound trip in your own country with an Interrail Global Pass.

Do these trips (legally) have to be on the first and on the last day of your travel, or can you choose just any date? Does the inbound trip have to be after the outbound?

If the inbound trip must be on the last day of my travel: does it have to be on the last day of the actual travel, or on the last day of the pass validity period? E.g. I buy a 21-day InterRail pass, but only use it for 19 days and travel home using the pass on the 19th day. Is this allowed, or do I have to travel home exactly on the 21th day to be able to travel for free?

If I travel home on the 19th day using the pass, does the pass become invalid after that, or can I e.g. fly to Paris the next day and ride the TGV with it, since there are still 2 days of the pass left?

Is there a legally binding fine print for InterRail with exact conditions of carriage, so that you could study and abuse them to the maximum extent possible? :D

Background: I am from Germany and am considering buying a 21-day InterRail pass to travel the rest of Europe. I will probably go home a couple of times during the pass validity period. So I am considering using a cheap paid ticket for the first outbound and the final inbound trips and saving the InterRail trips in my home country for an occasional return home inbetween (to avoid having to book more expensive tickets on a short notice).

Thanks :)
