I want to book a reservation on the Bernina express and the Rhaetian Railway website says both First and Second class reservations cost CHF14 with a standard Interrail pass. Does this mean I can travel in first class? Or do I have to have a first class interrail ticket for that? Has anyone done it? Thank you!

Hi Slothzool and welcome to rail.cc :)

If you want to travel in first class in a train ,you also need a first class Interrail pass.
If you only have a second class Interrail pass, you can not travel in first class - except you pay the price difference.

Read here for more information about the Bernina Express and Interrail: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/bernina-express/86

So I suppose you want to travel from St.Moritz to Tirano ? I personally would not use the Bernina Express with an Interrail pass. Use one of the very frequent Regional trains. These are free to use for Interrailers, no reservation required. You can open the windows to enjoy the scenic landscape and usually a wagon without roof is added to the train - cool! :D

Read our blog for all details: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/[/ux]

If you like all the free information we offer, support us and buy your Interrail pass via our partner link - currently you get even a 5% special discount on your purchase. Read here: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/interrail-discount/[/ux]
Thank you! :)

Hi,

you can also buy a "transfer ticket" from 2nd to 1st class for the part of the Bernina Express you want to travel. You can do this locally at a train station in Switzerland.
