Hello,
I am extremely confused with my Eurail pass. I was attempting to travel from Madrid to Cuenca on a RENFE regional which this website says is a 'no additional fee' train because reservations were not required. I went to madrid station, and when I presented my pass and asked for a ticket, i was forced to purchase a 4 euro seat reservation as well. When i got on the train, it was completely empty. Had I just gotten on the train and presented the ticket man on the train with my Eurail Pass - could I have avoided having to buy that 'ticket and reservation' at the booth? Can I just walk on the train and present my Eurail Pass on trains that do not require reservation? Or MUST I go to the station and get a paper ticket as well? (which they're forcing me to get seat reservations with?)
We are attempting to go tomorrow from Cuenca to Valencia, and according to this site I could take a 19:12 train from Cuena to Valencia (madrid-cuenca-valencia) with no additional fee- but according to Eurail's App and Planner, this line doesn't even exist? I don't understand at all :(

I am trying to just get on in Cuenca and ride to Valencia....it appears I should be able to get on at 19:12 and not have to pay anything extra? But according to everyone's webpages, this route/ train is completely non existent?

Hi!
- Please consider that all the information on this website regarding which trains require a reservation is collected by us as carefully and thorough as possible. Sometimes we have to rely on our own or another travellers experiences as there are almost no official informations to get. A good example are RENFE regional trains which sometimes require a reservation, sometimes dont. In this case in my opinion you would not have needed the reservation as a Regional train does not require a reservation according to our information.
- In general you do not need an extra ticket as our Eurail pass is your ticket. Just in case a train requires a reservation you have to get this reservation in addition to your ticket (which is the Eurail pass).
- Trains from Cuenca to Valenica tomorrow: Departure at 0918, 1536, 1915. Not all trains are included in the Eurail App and I cant comment on the liability of everyone's webpages. If you want you can check the timings on the RENFE website at renfe.com

ALL long-dist trains in Espana need to have seat-RES since a few years. RENFE is also notorious for very sparse and/or confusing info on it and also for many of its staff not knowing quite what to do. EUrail has nothing to do with that. Its the ''charm'' of many local countries all havign different customs.
And use brains to think: if a train is empty at start, it does not mean its empty all the way-it may well fill up a few stops onward.
However RENFE also offer sits OWN version of a railpass, available to anyone living out of ES, which is NOT an unlim. travelpass, but its all electronic and gives you 4/8/12 or whatever nr of long-dist. trips, with the RES included. You can handle the whole thing online or via its automats in estaciones.
