I have found trains (through Eurail) that go from Nice to Rome, usually with about 6 stops in between. I am traveling with two friends and we would ideally like to stop somewhere along the way in Italy (from Nice) for a day or 2 and then continue to Rome. Here are my questions:

1) If we stop somewhere along the way, say Genova for example, would we be able to catch a train easily from there to Rome through Eurail?

2) What are some good cities to visit on route to Rome from Nice?

Any feedback answers are appreciated!
Thanks :D

Hi!

FIrst, let my explain a few things...I assume you checked timings on eurail.com? Timings provided there are taken from a common database used by many European railways for their schedule planners so you do not necessarily have to use the schedule planner of eurail.com but could use the sites we recommended here as well: https://rail.cc/en/eurail-train-schedules
Also, in case you did not buy your tickets already I would ask to do so in our online shop at [ux]https://rail.shop/eurail[/ux] to support our work and the free information provided on our website. We are glad to help but rely on people buying from us since we also have to pay our bills. If you did buy your ticket already over at eurail.com you should ask them for advice...

1) Yes, of course. There are several direct connections each day, most of them are Frecciabianca trains which require a 10€ reservation which can easily be bought at a ticket office our at ticket machines in Italy. There are a few Intercity services as well where reservation is not compulsory (even when the schedule planners say so, but it is not) but recommended at a price of just 3€.

2) You might have a look at the villages of Cinque Terre just north of La Spezia as well as Rapallo which is a bit further north still. Pisa is famous for its leaning tower of course but the city itself is not supposed to be that interesting, better think of going to Lucca. A bit further away would be Firenze and Siena.
