Need some recommendations from you Romanian experts. I am traveling on a 5 day Balkan Flex Pass and will be starting my train Journey from Plovdiv, Bulgaria and into Sofia where I will then catch a 1900 hour night train to Bucharest on the 23rd of April 2013. Planning on spending 2 days in Bucharest and then on to see what there is to see in Transylvania starting on the 26 of April through 1 May where I catch another night train to Sofia and which will then end my train journey for this trip to Eastern Europe. Where do you recommend I go (see, experience, eat, etc.)? There are 4 regions within Transylvania that desperately need exploring. I will have three days of my flex pass left with the last day taking me back to Sofia. Willing to purchase point to point tickets!! Any ideas on this. Thanks ahead of time.

Hi!

Where do you plan to purchase the Balkan Flexi Pass? it is cheapest directly at a station in one of the participating countries - however, the country where you buy the pass is then regarding as your country of residence meaning that you are only allowed one trip to the border and back but no free travel in that country.

In Romania, you could think about: Brasov (and Bran Castle), Cluj, Sibiu...maybe you want to extend your trip to Bukowina as well and visit the Churches of Moldavia in Suceava, Moldovita,...

Flow, I did notice that I could have purchased my Balkan Flexipass in Romania for half the price that I paid for it in the USA. Of course that was not explained to me so maybe buying it in the States was the right thing to do. Would have purchased from railcc but needed a German County pass as well and it was listed as available for sale on railcc. QUESTION: Need to catch a night train to Bucharest out of Sofia that leaves Sofia at 1900 hrs. I will be coming off a train from Plovdiv earlier in the day. Am I going to use one or two days from my pass? Great suggestions on additional places to go. Txs.

Hey,

always better ask about the best combination of tickets before you purchase anything. The BFP is also listed in the railcc shop but we have no influence on that, this is done by our partner who provides the shop. :os
You would need two travel days for that trip Plovdiv - Sofia - Bucharest but it is better to just buy a regular domestic ticket Plovdiv - Sofia locally and then use just one of your travel days to get to Bucharest.

Flo, great advice again. Will purchase the short run to Sofia and then activate my Balkan Pass on the Bucharest run. Am flying into Plovdiv on Ryan air on a real cheap fair out of Hann airport in Frankfurt. Will see how the hostels are in Romania. Again, thanks. Yea, had I been able to get the German Rail Pass at the same time I purchased the Balkan Pass you better believe I would have purchased from Raildud. Well, this is not my last trip to Europe. I will take notes and lots of photos of the journey.
