Roman Forum

Foro Romano

The Roman Forum in Rome is the oldest Roman Forum and was at that time the political, cultural, economic and religious center of the city. Nowadays, you can visit only the ruins, but this is very impressive and you can imagine how important this place was in ancient times. Exit metro line at station Colosseo.

St. Peter's Basilica

A must see in Rome is the St. Peter's Basilica. St. Peter's Basilica is one of the largest church buildings in the world and the sanctuary of the Catholic Church. Here the Pope holds its holy Mass. Don't miss to climb the dome (costs EUR 5). Have enough time to spent, as you may have to wait in line because of the checks at the entrance. Metro station Ottaviano, then about 10 minutes foot walk.

Trevi Fountain

Visiting Rome, you should have a stop at the Trevi Fountain. It is the largest fountain in Rome (50 meters wide and 26 meters high) and at the same time one of the most famous fountains in the world. According to legend, it brings good luck to throw a coin over your right shoulder into the fountain. Metro station Barberini, then about 600 meters foot walk.

Pantheon

The Pantheon in Rome was built as a temple to all the gods. It is considered the best preserved building of Roman antiquity. In the Middle Ages, the Pantheon was consecrated as a church. For more than 1700 years, the dome of the Pantheon was considered as the world's largest. For a special atmosphere there is an oculus, a nine-meter wide circular opening at the highest point of the dome. It is the only source of natural light in the interior of the Pantheon.

The Galleria Alberto Sordi is one of the most interesting shopping arcades in Europe. Note: In the bookstore Feltrinelli on the first floor is a cafe, from where you can enjoy the relaxed way what is happening in the passage. ;-)

Colosseum

Castel Sant'Angelo

The Castel Sant'Angelo is a mausoleum, which was built for the Roman Emperor Hadrian and his successors. It was later used by the popes as a fortress because of its good location on the right bank of the Tiber. Today a museum can be visited in the Castel Sant'Angelo. In addition,you have a spectacular view of Rome from the platform! Exit subway station Lepanto, then another 15 minutes walk.
