Hi There!

I see very helpful post about little yellow train here (https://rail.cc/en/train/villefranche-de-conflent-to-latour-de-carol) and have an additional question on this topic.

The whole ride one way is 3 hours as I understand which can be too much for little kids and we are not sure how long our little one will enjoy the trip. So is there a way to get off somewhere in the middle (or an hour after) and use the back train? I can't see an option to buy shorter distance tickets so I'm trying to figure out if they would let us back from the middle (let's say Mont Louis) with the ticket that is end to end round trip and if the ticket indicated times are not exactly matching (buying end to end ticket and getting off and on in the middle will affect the times).

Thanks in advance!

Armen

Hi Armen!

When are you going to travel and what is your planned route?

As far as I know you can make a break during your trip with a TER = regional train ticket; however during summer there is a cheaper special fare offered for trips betwen Mont Louis and Latour de Carol so if you are travelling from Villefranche to Latour you will get two tickets anyway.
Also keep in mind that there are only two trains betwen Font Romeu and Latour de Carol so you arent that flexible (five trains between Villefranche and Font Romeu).

thanks Flo! Very helpful! We didn't realize the number of trains change after Font Romeu. Seems Villefranche Font Romeu is the best option - shorter and more flexible. Thanks for your help; we will get the tickets using this site definitely.

You're welcome. The route between Villefranche and Font Romeu definitely is more spectacular as the railway climbs from the Tet valley to the Cerdagne plateau but if time allows you should still consider travelling the full route to Latour de Carol. Also have a look at Puigcerda just across the border in Spain, which you can reach by train from Latour or on foot from Bourg Madame.
Regarding tickets - what kind of tour have you planned? If you need tickets only for the Yellow Train you can buy single tickets only locally at the stations. If you are considering travelling with Eurail we are happy if you buy through http://rail.shop/eurail/ :)
