Hi. I am planning a family inter-rail trip this Autumn. I have a few queries I can\'t seem to find answers to in normal FAQ\'s etc.
1) If I hold 1st Class Global tickets I know I can book on Virgins trains on Day 1 of my pass. Can I book 1st class on a service with the trimmings like breakfast/dinner etc. For example....I intend to travel from TAM at 6:48 on a Virgin service to EUS which provides brekky. Would we qualify..so to speak?
2) I cant seem to book a child\'s ticket on the Eurostar Inter-rail reservations page..just Adults and Youths. Will this be a problem if I book an 8 year old as a youth?
3) When I go to purchase my ticket it says you have 11 months to activate. Does this mean I can buy an Inter-rail pass with no definitive start date, or does it just mean you must have a start date within the next 11 months?
Any advice appreciated...PS this will be my 5th Inter-rail trip ....however, my first since 1982. The world has changed no doubt!

Hi Sandy, welcome to railcc!

You should qualify for all extras that are included in 1st class; however you should contact Virgin Trains for a definitive answer. Usually though, 1st class rail pass holders get the same amenities as travellers with "regular" 1st class tickets (there are some execptions, for instance 1st class Interrail tickets do not get you into DB Lounges in Germany)

Shoudnt be a problem but again - for a definitive answer please contact Eurostar support
3)
When buying an Interrail pass you always have to specify a first day of validity. From this day, your pass will be valid one month or 15 consecutive days; a one month pass with first day of validity bought on July 10 will be valid until August 9; there is no need to "activate" your pass locally at a train station.
The 11 months are the pre booking time, for instance the last possible day of validity for a pass bought on July 10 would be June 9 of the following year.
Sorry for not being able to help further, but these are some quite specific questions which I didnt encounter before. ;)

Very helpful in fact!
I did contact Eurostar (via Twitter) and they confirmed that the Inter-Rail reservation charges are all the same for adults, youths and children so it doesn\'t really matter what you book under.
I will ask further question no doubt as we get the final itinerary confirmed.

OK perfect. Makes sense too, since reservations for passholders are usually always the same price regardless the age of the traveller.
