I\'d like to get a 3 week ticket and I\'m hoping to travel across a few cities in central Europe, e.g. Krakow, Munich, Prague. I\'d like to finish in Croatia, but I\'m interested more in the south, like Hvar, and I\'d also like to spend a day in places like Sarajevo or Kotor, so I\'m wondering should I take a train from Budapest to Belgrade or something and then go west through those places to Croatia, but I\'ve heard the train system is awful in the balkans, so is this feasible, or should I just go Budapest>Ljubljana>Zagreb>Split or something instead?
Also, is it likely to be difficult/expensive to book hostels in these places in August? I\'m travelling solo and planning to stay mainly in party hostels, but I\'m worried about not being able to find anywhere or having to pay €30 for a bed.

Hi!
In Croatia, Split is the last train station on the coast towards the south. You can reach Split by day or night train from Zagreb. From Split you can reach many islands and travel along the coast by bus and ferry.
You can also travel from Budapest to Split by direct night train: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/budapest-split-g1204/132[/ux]
Alternatively you can go to Belgrade [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/budapest-belgrade-train/[/ux], then travel to Podgorica and Bar in Montenegro: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/summer-night-trains-montenegro-2017/n30[/ux]
From Montenegro you can travel by bus via Kotor to Dubrovnik and onwards to Split. Check [ux]https://busticket4.me[/ux] and [ux]www.getbybus.com[/ux]
Regarding hostels I cant really give a precise answer since the last time I have been travelling there was in 2013...but you usually have to problems to find private rooms when asking at the bus station or tourist info. Regarding price I am not quite sure though. :(

No problem to ask in english ;)
Basic communication is possible in all touristy locations and also in accomodations, restaurants in more remote locations. :)
