Hey guys!

In June I\'ll be travelling with 5 friends on the Budapest to Krakow night train. We\'ll probably have interrail passes but I\'m aware that we would still need to pay a supplement/reservation also. How exactly would we approach this? Is it possible to book a supplement online or would it have to be done at the train station? Also, any ideas how much this would cost?

Cheers :)

Hi!

The night train fares (and schedules) can be found here: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/budapest-krakow-en-476/137[/ux]
Please note that the prices in the link are valid for reservations bought locally and that they will be more expensive if bought outside of Hungary, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Poland or Slovakia (eg a 6bed couchette will be 13,40€).

Reservations are not available online; you would have to buy it locally at a train station; this does not necessarily has to be in Budapest or Hungary but is also possible at international ticket desks in many other European countries (Austria, Germany,...).

Another possibility to get the reservations beforehand would be either the reservation service of Austrian Railways (ÖBB) at +43 5 17 17 3; payment via credit card and pickup at a station/ticket machine in Austria or by post (5€).
Or you use the reservation service by our partner interrail.eu - they will also charge a service fee and can only send paper reservations via post.

Personally, I would think about getting this reservation early enough since the Budapest - Krakow train is quite popular and with a group of six chances of getting a full compartment for your group alone are higher if you get the reservation in advance.

You can support our work by getting your passes through our partner link with interrail.eu; please use this link before booking, no extra costs for you of course: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] - thank you! :)
At the moment you can get 15% off however discounted passes cannot be exchanged/reimbursed: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/interrail-promo-2017/[/ux]

If you have more questions just ask.

Hi!
Thanks for your response it has been quite helpful.
From your above response, given that our group of 6 will only be in Budapest for 3 days, I assume this is far too late to make a reservation at the local station in Budapest?
Would it be possible to book at a train station in Northern Ireland?
Otherwise, our most likely option would be to book it via the interrail service that you mentioned which involves the reservation fee and also a booking fee. Do you know if the reservation fee would be significantly higher than the ones listed in your link above, given that we\'re based in Western Europe, outside of Hungary, Poland etc? Also does this option definitely exist for this specific route?

Sorry for the questions, it\'s our first time travelling by trains :)
Thanks

Hi!

In summer, getting six couchette reservations (in the same compartment) three days in advance probably wont work out.
It isnt possible to get the reservation at a station in Northern Ireland (the British Isles are not connected to the booking system of European Railways).
The reservation fee when using the reservation service should be the same as when booking at a station on continental Europe outside the countries I mentioned above. So a bed in a 6-bed couchette should be 13,40€ (plus overall booking fee). The reservation service should be able to get this reservation.
Keep in mind you have to buy your ticket though interrail.eu to be able to use the reservation service; by using our partner link [ux]http://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] you can support our work at the same time at no extra costs.
If you have more questions, feel free to ask we are glad to help. And maybe also have a look here [ux]https://rail.cc/en/first-time-interrail[/ux] for more information. :)
