Hi!

You can buy reservations at stations in mainland Europe free of charge.

Sadly this is not at all the case-anymore.
FLo ONLY mentioned you might save the EXTRA service fee by going to stations. BUT in many countries the railways now also charge extra-on top of the normal prices- to do such time consuming and non-money-bring-in things.
In SE+UK this is now not possible at all anymore-you have to fone.
In NL, BE and CH there are now service fees of 5/7/7,50 or 10 EUR or CHF. Maybe also in other countries. But in these countries there is no need at all for domestic reservation-in fact its not even possible.
For domestic trips in Fr you can now do online via voyages-sncf, but need cred cd for payment.
In most countries that do domestic reservations, wait till there-thats always the quickest and cheapest way.
As a kind of heritage remnant of old days, railways are able to do such reservations at any INTernational salespoint, also for trips wholly outside of their area. THis often comes as a giant surprise for you younfg Brits. But even if they state to not levy any surcharge, they might still simply charge more for the same thing as in that country.

Sorry for digging out an older thread, but do I understand correctly that you can go to an international salespoint (what is it exactly?) e.g. in Germany and make all your Interrail high speed train reservations in Italy/France/Spain?

If yes, does this also include crossborder trains (e.g. Perpignan-Barcelona)? Somehow I cannot even find InterRail reservation prices for this segment online, let alone make a reservation. Would be amazing if a German Railways sales point at a big station could do it.

Thanks :)

Hi,

it depends from country to country what kind of international reservations are available at local train stations. Germany, Austria and other central european countries usually have the best offer and can sell reservations for almost all european countries.
For instance it is no problem to get reservations for France/Italy/Spain as long as you find fairly competent staff.
Online much fewer trains can be reserved; often it is only possible to get paper reservations, for instance for Spain via [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation/[/ux] - for France you can get online reservations via [ux]https://rail.shop/sncf/reservation/[/ux] - for Italy go to trenitalia.com, select a train, then Global Pass.

We are official partners of interrail.eu - to support the free information and the forum on railcc, please be fair and buy your official Interrail pass via our railcc partner link: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)
