AMSTERDAM - BERLIN - train

Hi,

I will be travelling with my girlfriend from Amsterdam to Berlin on the 31st of July, hoping to leave Amsterdam at 9:01. We both have an Interrail 10 in 22 ticket.

From what I understand, we do not need reservations for this journey. But, would you recommend making reservations for this journey to ensure that we get seats? As we will be travelling at quite a busy time I thought that this might be necessary.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The train itself is free of reservation for Interrailers: [u]https://rail.cc/en/interrail/amsterdam-to-berlin[/u]

And yes, it might get full during summer months - but then, just sit on the floor. :)
Reservations are only available at stations. But buy it ouside of the Netherlands, as there is a service fee added for reservations sold at stations.

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean by The train itself is free of reservation for Interrailers.

Also, you say that we should buy the reservation outside of the Netherlands. We start our journey in Brussels a few days before, so could we just buy the reservation when we get the Brussels-Midi to save us paying the service fee? But, if we buy from Brussels on the 29th of July (two days before we travel from Amsterdam to Berlin), do you think it will still be possible to reserve two seats, or will the train be full?

I mean: you can use the train without having a reservation for it. The train might be full. But I'm sure you will find a seat. Maybe you have to change seats from time to time. But a reservation is not required.
A reservation is only an extra, which grants you one and the same seat for the whole route from Amsterdam to Berlin.
And you can never preview if a train is full or not. I would say it is very busy at that time. :)

I have traveled a lot with this train (just inside the Netherlands) and my experience is that all trains are quite busy. Including the 9am train as most busiest. Don't forget that it is a 'normal IC' service including national travelers and students but just crossing the border. Trough I am personally not buying one since you can always find a place. Plus you start in Amsterdam, your changes are about 98% to find a seat, the train is a out 5 min at the station before departure.

For buying reservations you will probably get a 4 seat coupe with door.

IF you choose to get a seat RES-this only means some lighted thing above the seat is on for 15 mins to warn others-you may still have to chase away duuuhh other Brits:
IF you do that here in NL it cost you the fee PLUS 7,50 EXTRA as ''servic e''
IN BE this now ALSO cost 7 eur extra for ''service''. Thats more as the actual cost of it.
In both you can ONLY do that at special INTernational desks-in NL these have enormous Qs now in summer.
There are NO 4 seat coupes (compartment) the min. is 6 and they are often quite stuffy and cramped. The other 7 or 8 cars have airline type seating-some vis-avis, most in bus-rows.
I bought 2 cheap tickets on [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] for this trip for just 19 eur as summer special- there are now near hourly cheap BUSes too AMs-Ber, on meinfernbus.nl or .de.
So you see how much that IR actually saves you...........

Hi, I am looking to travel from Amsterdam to Berlin on 28th July, hopefully on an overnight train. Its difficult to find any schedules as it is so in advance, but I need to book my hostel and whether I travel overnight or not affects how many nights I book in Amsterdam. I think I have found a train from Amsterdam Centraal to Duisburg Hbf on the IC rail, then an overnight train form Duisburg to Berlin Hbf on the CNL rail. I found this on the Deutsche Bahn but it doesn't seem to exist anywhere else, and of the journeys I have found it says the route was withdrawn on the CNL so it no longer begins at Amsterdam. Do night trains usually run from Amsterdam/Duisburg to Berlin in the Summer?

There's no night train between Berlin and Amsterdam any more. You can use the night train between Köln (Cologne) and change there. This connection is also shown in the DB Reiseauskunft (plan.rail.cc). The IC part (IC 61419) is the night train from Amsterdam to Zürich, BTW.
