Hi!

We are planning to take an train trip from Milano to Tirano. Then Bernina-Express from Tirano to St.Moritz. Regular train from ST.Moritz to Realp. Some old train from Realp to Oberwald. Glaciär-express from Oberwald to Zermatt. Regular train from Zermatt to Airport in Milano. What is the cheapest way to buy ticket?

Hi Agneta!

When are you going to travel and how many people (what ages?) are travelling?
A quite cheap solution would be to get an Interrail One Country Pass for Switzerland: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-pass-switzerland
This ticket is valid for the trains from Tirano to Zermatt and on the return journey from Zermatt to Domodossola, except (!) for the trip with DFB (Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke) from Realp to Oberwald: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-company/dampfbahn-furka-bergstreck/137

You would then need extra tickets from Milano to Tirano and Domodossola to Milano as well as for the trip with DFB. If you want to travel with Bernina Express from Tirano to St. Moritz you need a reservation: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/bernina-express/86 However, you can travel the same route with regular regional trains as well without paying for a reservation.
Similarly you need a reservation for travel with Glacier Express: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/glacier-express/2587; however, you can\'t board Glacier Express at Oberwald, this is only possible in Andermatt: [ux]http://www.fahrplanfelder.ch/fileadmin/fap_pdf_fields/2017/144.pdf[/ux] so I would recommend again to simply use the regular trains on the route to Zermatt.

From Milano to Tirano there are direct regional trains operated by Trenord; book here or directly at a station: [ux]https://rail.shop/trenord[/ux]
From Domodossola to Milano you can use Trenord trains as well; as an alternative you can book a ticket on a direct EuroCity express train from Visp or Brig (in Switzerland) to Milano at [ux]https://rail.shop/omio/[/ux]. From Zermatt to Visp or Brig you can travel with your Interrail pass, then change to the direct EC train to Milan.

Overall, I think that the combination of InterRail One Country Pass plus separate tickets for Milano - Tirano and Visp/Brig/Domodossola - Milano is the best solution; for the trip with DFB you have to pay extra in any way.
You can compare the full fare prices for Swiss trains on the website of Swiss Railways SBB: [ux]https://rail.shop/sbb[/ux]

OK - so you can buy two "family" Interrail passes and take the children with you for free plus two "senior" Interrail passes: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-pass-switzerland

Additionally you would need tickets Milano - Tirano and Brig/Visp/Domodossola - Milano plus the tickets for DFB.

Is there a Eurail Select pass available for use in the above 4 countries or do I require a Eurail Global Pass ?. We are two seniors and will require 22 days of train travel during a 31 day period. We will travel from Amsterdam to Brussels then travel to Bayeaux ( France ) From there we will be travelling around France- Ambiose, Sarlat, Carcassone,Arles,Nice,Annecy, Chamonix to Colmar ( Via scenic rail route through Switzerland ) ,Reims , Paris where we flow back home to Australia.
I have booked our accomodation in all of the above towns and now am requiring assistance in train travel which we will use exclusively apart from the occasional day hire of a car.
This trip commences 30th April when we depart Amsterdam and arriving back in Paris 29th May. We fly back to Australia on 31 May 2017
