Hello,

I read on the Interrail website that night trains (like Euronight Metropol, Euronight Lisinski, ...) are with a compulsory reservation. But, I read on this website that seats reservation on night trains is sometimes not compulsory (point 5 of "Interrail for the first time") . Can someone tell me more about this subject ?
We are a group of 15 young people and we would like to travel with night trains, but if we can avoid the price of additional reservation on this trains, we would be so happy.

Thanks a lot for your answers,

Pauline Wauters

Hi Pauline welcome to rail.cc,

night trains are quite a complex topic. ;)
For most night trains you will need reservations for travel in all comfort categories (regular seat, couchette or sleeper). However, on some night trains you can use regular seats without a seat reservation (or get the reservation for free).
You find a comprehensive list of all night trains in Europe including timetables and reservation fares for Interrail here: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train[/ux]

If you are travelling in a group of 15 people I would recommend making seat reservations on all night trains you want to take. If you tell us more about your route we can surely give some more detailed information about the night trains you could possibly use.

To support our work you can purchase your official Interrail passes via our partner link to interrail.eu: [ux]http://rail.shop/interrail/[/ux] - thank you very much! :)

Hello,

Thanks a lot for your answer. :-)

Here is our route :

- From Krakow to Praha with "Euronight Czech Republic" (EN 402)
- From Praha to Vienna with "Euronight Metropol" (EN 40477)
- From Vienna to Munich with "Euronight Kalman Imre" (EN 462)
- From Munich to Zagreb with "Euronight Lisinski" (EN 50463)
- A train from Zagreb to Podgorica (there is a compulsory change on the path and the second train is a night train but I don\'t know its name)
- A train from Ancona to Venezia (not night train but I have seen that the booking is compulsory on these two trains)

But, with your previous answer, I think it would be more cautious to book our regular seats.

Thanks again for all your answers,

Pauline Wauters

Seat reservations are required on all night trains except from Praha to Vienna and Beograd to Podgorica (the night train is called Lovcen btw ;) ).

You can also travel from Ancona to Venice using regional trains (change trains in Bologna) that do not require a reservation. I would recommend to avoid the "Frecciarossa/Frecciargento/Frecciabianca" high speed trains on that route as they require a 10€ reservation and that would quickly become expensive, especially if you are not taking a direct train from Ancona to Venice.

Also, you could travel from Vienna to Munich during the day in just about 4h without a seat reservation.

You will find reservation prices of all the above mentioned on the link I posted above. :)
