Hi,

what are best small towns and villages that have the most beautiful architecture, scenery etc, but are not so very well known?

I've been to a few from this list and they're buzzing with tourists.

Any recommendations?

Hi
Of those on the list I have only been to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Dinkelsbühl. Both are most picturesque but quite busy. Others, a bit larger, include Nürnberg and Regensburg. Again very nice places with a quite a few visitors.
The larger towns of Hamburg and Lübeck were also very interesting but full of business people in addition to tourists.
I really didn't get the chance to visit any of the really small villages, so I am afriad that I cannot be of much help!
Happy travels
Richard

Yeah I was in Rothenburg too, and yes, it's amazing :)
But also, absolutely swarming with tourists :)

Hi!

Ask Heike, she has been around Germany a lot and probably can give you some tips.
Personally, I cant give you much advice - if possible, travel on weekdays and outside German holiday periods so you can at least avoid domestic tourists. I've been to the Rhine valley (Oberwesel) end of last August and barely saw any tourists at all.

Hi,

some nice towns with not so many tourists (at least not when I was there) are:
Arnstadt
Celle
Coburg
Freiberg
Gotha
Korbach
Kronach
Landshut
Lüneburg
Meiningen
Monschau
Mühlhausen
Wolfenbüttel

I guess the best ones are really quite run over.

Good luck!
Susann
